YAJNAS AND CONSCIOUSNESS
It
is not possible to talk about yajnas without talking
about the principal person involved in the decision
to have the yajna performed. The yajna exists in
order to create a stronger link between humans and
the laws of nature (Gods). A link that has been
damaged more or less severely by human actions on
an individual level or on a collective level. So
it is the desire of one individual or more to reestablish
the severed link that will make the performance
of a yajna possible. This desire to be more in harmony
with oneself is the basis to become in Oneness with
the whole Universe. As
it is impossible to know intellectually all the
laws of nature that we are not in harmony with,
the knowledge of one's astrological chart will
make it easier to understand what are the majors
laws of nature that one has to reestablish harmony
with, in this life time, in order to have access
to a more balanced mind, spirit and body.
It
is impossible for an individual to work on all
the laws of nature, one by one, in one life time
with the idea of becoming enlightened. There are
just to many of those laws. So why bother about
performing yajnas ? One could say. Well the goal
of having yajnas performed is to create a minimal
balance that will make possible then for someone
to benefit from a contenting life. This contentment
has for purpose to free the mind sufficiently
from sufferings so it becomes possible to engage
oneself on a spiritual path. A spiritual path
won't mean that there is not going to have any
ups and down along the path. It means that the
contentment is strong enough so even if some ups
and downs occur on the path, that won't be enough
to divert the attention of the spirit from the
desire to unite with God.
This
way the yajnas are becoming a key, not The key,
but simply another good key to support one's strong
desire of progressing on the spiritual path.
ON THE SPIRITUAL
PATH
There
is a first strong objection that comes from time
to time about the real beneficial effects of the
yajnas on the spiritual path. Some people are
telling me sometimes : " If we allow people to
have yajnas performed to alleviate some bad karmas
that they were supposed to go through, we steal
from them to learn a lesson of life that could
have made them more spiritual. " That would prove
to be right only if the yajnas would have an impact
only and strictly on the karma level. But that
is not the case. Beside having this influence
of burning the past karma, the yajnas will have
another major impact on someone's life:
The yajnas have the ability
to transform one's consciousness.
This
means that the lack of embrace that a spirit can
have towards some laws of Nature is modified by
the yajnas' performance. Once the understanding
is integrated on the level of consciousness it
is very likely that the individual won't repeat
the same mistake.
The
second major objection that I hear once in a while
is that having yajnas performed will indulge one's
spirit more deeply in the material life. ( I have
to mention here that yajnas can be performed for
any existing area of life). That statement has
no place from a wide spiritual perspective :
that statement comes from a non-holistic point
of view. From an astrological point of view, all
planets can help to reach enlightenment. All aspects
of life are related in a way or another to a planet.
So enlightenment can be reached by so many paths
that any angle can be used for that goal. I find
that objection of self indulgement in material
life somehow coming from an old occidental religious
archetypal point of view which was proning the
non-involment into material life, so they could
have a better control over the people. We have
to destroy that belief that is quite armful on
the spiritual path.
For someone
who is involved in the mundane life, to deny the
importance of some material comfort, is to deny
a part of his/her spiritual path.
If a monk who has for spiritual path to be not
concerned by mundane life, would decide to have
yajnas performed to find a good wife/husband,
or to have a yajna performed to become very rich.
Even then I wouldn't see any problems. If that
person has that desire it is for a reason. From
our experience we have seen that when people would
have a yajna done for something that is not supportive
for their evolution, that desire would simply
vanish after the performance of the yajna. The
yajnas have nothing to do with black magic. They
will work only if they promote life as a whole.
If the monk becomes rich after the yajna, then
it is for the best for him and for the Universe.
Money
is not anti-spiritual. It is the attachment to
the idea of that money is the source of happiness
that can be armful. As much as the attachment
to the idea of being a monk is the only key to
enlightenment, can also be really armful.
It
becomes more an individual responsibility on the
behalf of the person who chooses to have a yajna
performed or not, or the responsibility of the
vedic astrologer who is recommending such or such
yajna for a person who is seeking for help. It
might be very well the responsibility of the jyotishi
to tell someone to forget about a particular type
of desire that will not support one's spiritual
evolution.
