There
are some factors to take in consideration to understand
the degree of success of a yajña. The
different levels of karmas and their nature, satvic,
rajasic or tamasic, have to be taken
into consideration.
Besides
the four different types and three different
qualities of karmas, there is also three variable
intensities of karmas : Dridha karma
which is fixed and extremely difficult to avoid,
Dridha-Adridha karma which is changeable
through consistent efforts and finally there
is the Adridha karma which is easily
changeable through simple actions.
The
four types of karmas are:
1) sanchita karma
: is the sum of all past actions performed
in this lifetime and past lives.
2) prarabdha karma
: is the part of sanchita karma which
is going to be experienced during this lifetime.
3) kriyamana karma
: is what we are currently creating through
our choices right now. It is our creativity
that is unfolding, it is our « free will
».
4) agama karma
: is the actions that we are planning for the
future. Actions that will or will not be achieved
depending on the choices that we are making
now and those that we have made in the past.
The
decision of having a yajña performed
is part of the kriyamana karma (free will).
We always hope that the yajña that is
going to be performed will have an obvious effect
on our prarabdha karma (karma that we are going
through in this lifetime). From our experience,
this is what is happening. In about 95% of the
cases people will feel and/or observe a definitive
lessening, or an elimination of the bad karma
that they are experiencing. Moreover, whatever
sanchita karma (or prarabdha karma similar in
a later part of this life) connected to the
yajña performed, it will be influenced
by the yajña to some degree.
For
the remaining 5% we can only conclude that the
prarabdha karma is extremely strong (probably
a Dridha karma or Adridha karma of tamasic nature),
strong enough to not be influenced sufficiently
by a first yajña, so it is difficult
to appreciate its influence on a gross level.
A
yajña performed for a situation related
to a karma of satvic quality will have quick
results. This means that the area of your life
for which the yajña has been performed
was already moving in an evolutionary direction.
A
yajña performed for a situation related
to a karma of rajasic quality will have medium
results on a short term basis and will gradually
continue to improve. This mean that the area
of your life for which the yajña has
been performed was in a way lively, but not
going in the right direction.
And
finally a yajña performed for a situation
related to a karma of tamasic quality will have
small results on a short term basis, but slowly
will improve the situation over the months and
years. This means that the area for which the
yajña was performed was in a static,
heavy inertia, or even unfolding in the opposite
direction of what is needed in your life for
your fulfillment as a spiritual being.
There
are so many possibilities of mixed qualities
and intensities of karmas that the best thing
to do is to try and see. And even if we start
sometimes from very far, we never know when
the grace of the Gods will bless us more then
we expect.
Having
a yajña performed is never a loss even
if there is no tangible results felt immediately.
It is part of a process in which we engage ourselves.
Life is usually unfolding in a progressive manner.
So if someone starts from a tamasic karma, the
first yajña will transform that tamasic
quality into a rajasic quality. Then, with a
second or third yajña the person should
experience finally a satvic quality.
This
is why sometimes your vedic astrologer might
recommend you to get a yajña performed
more than once. The qualities and intensities
of the karmas can be evaluated through the situation
of the planets in your natal chart.
Best regards and wishes
